Chau Pho Hotel

+ Surprisingly Good Stay !

Of all the hotels planned for our vacation to Vietnam & Cambodia, the Chau Pho seemed the most suspect from the reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. Hotel is a bit out of the town center (However, I assume most travelers come to Chau Doc not to sightsee but to catch a boat to Cambodia). We were given a 2 room suite that was quite nice and very roomy, modern and clean. Included breakfast was great. As some reviews have mentioned, the plain walls could use some decoration but that's a small issue when the rooms are large and comfy!!

+ Simple, but good night's stay !

We spent one night in the Chau Pho hotel before catching a 4 hour boat ride into Cambodia (PP). The property, while not near the river, is a relatively clean, multi-story, contemporary building. Our room was very plain (see pictures) and functional. Firm bed, working television, lights, chairs, etc. The bathroom vented into the hallway, so if you wanted complete privacy, I guess you'd be out of luck. We were on a high floor and were completely unaffected by any street noise or activity. It was noisy at night, but it stopped at 10 p.m.
The staff, although more limited in English than other places we stayed, was very helpful and arranged a pick up for us to get to the boat docks (Hang Chau boat) on time. They also pointed us around town as we had a day to explore. We had dinner at the Bay Bong Restaurant (simple and delicious meal in a clay pot), talked to lot of kids who were eager to try out their English, and strolled along the waterfront promenade. Incidentally, we found people more friendly here than any other Vietnamese town we visited (5).
Restaurant served a mix of western food and Vietnamese food....nothing special, but adequate. One computer available for free internet use in the lobby. We spent $25 for the night; king bed, breakfast for two.
