+ Very pleasantly surprised!

This was our first stop on our honeymoon to Vietnam and the hotel with the least favourable reviews of all the hotels booked for our trip so we didn't have high expectations! However as soon as we arrived all our worries were put to rest. The reception area was stunning and check in was efficient. We arrived late morning so were pleased to be allowed to check in early.
Our room was large and bright, well furnished and very comfortable. There was a gorgeous display of rose petals on our bed and soon after we arrived there was a delivery of a bottle of wine and a delicious heart shaped sponge cake!
We had lunch at the downstairs buffet which had a good selection of salads and hot food and a great dessert selection.
We both had treatments at the spa which were very greatly relaxing and fairly reasonably priced for a 5* hotel.
We enjoyed the Latino bar where we had some tapas out on the terrace, the selection of food was just alright but there was a good cocktail list and live music every night.
The breakfast buffet was great, good selection of hot and cold foods.
During our trip we went to Halong Bay (Highly recommended) and when we checked in on our return we were asked if we wanted to upgrade to an executive which we did. While it gave you free wi-fi and access to a separate lounge on the top floor with superb views I wasn't sure if it was worth paying the extra. The room is the same size and the breakfast buffet in the executive lounge had slightly less than the downstairs breakfast.
Hanoi is a great city with lots of culture and history and definitely worth a visit. I wouldn't want to spend too long there, it is extremely noisy and chaotic and crossing the roads is an ordeal!! Full of charm though and definitely somewhere to see on a visit to Vietnam.

+ Great Hotel !

We arrived at the Melia at 5.15am on a very wet and windy morning with no booking ( after not being able to get into another hotel we had booked and paid for),from Sapa train. The staff were fast and efficient at getting us into a room, where we promptly showered and fell into the magnificent huge and very comfy bed.The rooms were quite large with big windows over looking the city.Breakfast was amazing with everything and anything on the menu to cater for all nationalities. The Melia has all the facilities you would expect of a hotel of this calibre.Quite hexy by Vietnam standards ,but one of the best we hotels we stayed in during our trip,This is a great hotel with big, clean, comfy rooms with all the mod con's. The only disappointing thing would be the Wi-Fi wasn't free as it appeared to be in every other hotel we used during our 4 week trip.

+ Brilliant start to Vietnam Trip !

We booked this one as our first night in hanoi and it was more than what i expected, staff were great, location was good with several nice restauarents nearby, we did a half day trip with hanoi kids which was fantastic. great pool which was a welcome relief as we started adjusting to the heat after leaving a melbourne winter behind. the buffet breakfast was really good and we started the day with a bowl of pho soup and a latte. Walking distance to Old quarter and the lake or a short taxi ride if thats your preference.

+ Overrated !

The best thing about this hotel was its location. Right in the middle of the French district and a short 10 minute walk to the lake and cathedral and also handy for the old town.

Apart from that it is unimpressive s and over rated. The room was noisy and shoddy. There are evidently security issues as the lift can only be operated with your room key. Check in was diobolical. As part of a group that had booked over 8 months ago we were left standing around for half an hour while they allocated rooms at the last minute.

The entrance might look flash but the service certainly isn't.
